Another book
I just finished reading a honkin' book. I read a long time ago Wally Lamb's She's Come Undone. And saw another of his in Goodwill so picked it up. Turns out I am following a theme of alcoholics, though in this book it's just one element. I almost gave up on this huge book several times, but I'm glad I worked my way through it. "The Hour I First Believed". It sort of traces the impact of violence in a family over time, most specifically in one that's related to Columbine. It was not as subtle a book as Blame, nor as good I thought, but still definitely worth reading if you can just go with the negative flow that is his life.

I had mixed feelings about She's Come Undone...same thing with I Know This Much is True. There were things I liked about them, yet they seemed so difficult and somewhat unappealing at times.
I haven't tried The Hour I First Believed yet. Sounds like one to save for when I'm feeling up to a worthwhile challenge.
And here I thought it was a book about honkin'. So disappointed.

I'm of the same opinion of Laura--there were things I liked and disliked about the books. And I've not read the one you wrote of...but I'll give it a review or two and see if I can pick it up. (and add it to the stack by the nightstand....LOL)
I thought any Wally Lamb book I've read was kind of hard to read, because they made me so sad. I suppose that means they were effective, though.
Just note everyone that it's not for everyone. I'm not so sure it was for me, but in the end I'm glad I read it.
