The Road

I finished reading The Road earlier this week. What a book. As I was reading it, I wondered why I continued reading it because it was so bleak. I was hoping for, in fact expecting, some sort of resolution. But the author did not provide it, in part because the theme of the book was survival. Continuing on despite the odds. So, looking back, I understand it, and actually found it to be very good. Though I'm known to persevere, I'm not sure if I would have continued. So bleak.

This is part of my new routine. I have a book that I only read while riding the stationary bike at the gym. And I go every morning, except on weekends. And I can only read that book at that time.

Currently working on The Dive from Clauson's Pier, but I have this sneaky feeling I've read it before. Alas.

Any recommendations for me??

Well if you remember one thing aobut me amidst all the other effed up stuff, I LOATHE reading books! I do read some smut, but nothing worthwhile...So I guess I would be of no assistance to you here!!!

I loved the Road and found it very hopeful...I think to find even one good person in that environment would make me hopeful.

Read Water for Elephants. It's really great escapism.

Tera, thanks for the non-assistance!

Churlita - I read that a while back and really liked it. Your view of The Road I guess is telling about your personality vs mine.

water for elephants was good, but sadly that was the last book I read, just not reading much lately, granted this isn't much since Churlita mentioned it first but still it's better than nada like Tera offered : )

A couple of books I've read recently that I really enjoyed were The Feast of Love by Charles Baxter and Room by Emma Donoghue. Both really well written, interesting, and hopeful :-)
