Sick days

Don't you hate those people who go into work sick and spread germs? I feel so bad - I've become one of them. Turns out a co-worker is now out sick, because of me. I was such an idiot to go into work when I felt like crap - I forgot my mantra of 'the world will not come to an end if x doesn't get done'. I know there are people who either don't get appropriate amounts of sick leave or really do have to work despite having a fever (Gnome). But that doesn't make it good. I had to go in today to drop off some forms and I tried to make sure I didn't touch anything without a paper towel on my hand. Sigh... Of course the trip in wore me out and I went home and took a 2 hour nap. And could use another one!

On a positive note, I've been able to watch some movies, which I don't take enough time to do.

First one was Footloose. Haven't seen it since it came out I think! It's not half bad... I remember loving the name 'Ren' and thinking I'd name my son that. I looked at one of the characters, thought she looked familiar, and it WAS Sarah Jessica Parker.

Then I had borrowed Spirited Away from my brother. It really was beautiful and amazing - you have to see it. It is NOT for kids, that's for sure though. I'm bringing it to my family's for Christmas so everyone can see it.

Yesterday I rented Hairspray - the most recent version. At first I was kind of rolling my eyes and didn't want to deal with the fluff, and then one of the songs just made me smile and got me moving a little bit. And so I got into the movie more. My favoritest person on there is Elijah Kelley, my favorite quote: "I'm very pleased and scared to be here." A number of the pieces are just so great. I'm not quite done yet, and will go watch the end with supper tonight. It makes me want to see the original, which I think will be a little more twisted, given John Waters and Divine. But maybe not. Funny that John Waters was the flasher.

On tap for tomorrow if Blockbuster has it: Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

loved footloose but haven't seen it in years. and you were right on with spirited away. i ~love~ that movie. i think hairspray is in my netflix que, i'll have to check. i saw hedwig when it first came out on video, i was working at a video store at the time. i liked it but it made j ~very~ uncomfortable. lol he did however learn a lesson with that one, when i say 'you wouldn't like it' it ~means~ 'you wouldn't like it, go away so i can watch it in peace!'

Susan, what did you do in London?

Heather, that's so funny about 'you wouldn't like it'. At least he tried to share with you though! I hope they have it...

Sick people at work suck, and I am already OCD when it comes to germs!!! But sick days kick. Ass. Since of course usually I'm not sick during them!

I actually quit a job because they thought I should have come in to work even though I was sick. It was a job as a receptionist for a veterinarian office, which means I was constantly touching things that other people would touch and passing papers and pens and such back and forth to our clients' owners...my germs would have been unavoidable, and I could not in good conscience continue working somewhere that couldn't value their employees' or patrons' health more than my being gone a couple days. It may have been "just a cold" (which it actually was more of an infection that I was concerned would land me back in brochitis land), but a cold slows people down, and I think it should be more important to have one person gone for a couple days than to infect your entire staff and have everyone be less productive for several weeks as the illness spread.

Whew...that struck a chord, huh? ;>

I'm afraid to watch the new Hairspray. I saw the first one when it came out and I lived in San Francisco and it was such a fun event. I'm afraid the new one will be too watered down and not enough John Waters.

Tera, I know. OK, this isn't quite big enough to be a regret, but it's close. I feel so bad...
Woo, that's amazing! Wow, what a job. I must say I fell victim to feeling like I had to emulate my boss, who puts the job almost above all else. I thought I'd win some brownie points for working hard even though I was sick. Stupid stupid me.
Churlita, I'll watch the other sometime and let you know - likely you are correct that the original is better.

Nor: I'm not fully allowed to speak of my time in London. I do, however, have a very romantic story that I might tell sometime.
