I'm old, I need advice

OK, so I just got the wireless bill and since it's my only source of communication I'm way over minutes and have to pay a ton of money (I'm still on the shared plan with my husband).

I'm with Verizon, and plan to stay with them. So, it seems to me that if all I care about is minutes, I only have two choices - either pay $60 for 450 minutes or $99 for unlimited. Is this normal?

All I want is to use my device as a phone. I get occasional texts, but it's not my life. And I guess if I plan on not getting a land line, then I need unlimited. Have I answered my own question? My initial worry was that if I move somewhere where DSL is not available, then I might need my land line for dial up. But realistically, nfw would I go back to dial up.

So, um, thanks for all your help. :-)

I pay about $70 a month. I have 450 minutes, plus unlimited texting, plus unlimited photo (just in case tags appear before me). I never go over minutes because my girl Renee is on Verizon as well--those minutes are free.

My advice, only talk to people on Verizon..you don't use up minutes.

Seriously, pay for the 450, that's a lot more minutes than you realize.

Instead of having a home phone, I use my cell phone for everything, but I'm not a big phone user anyways.

So I pay $75 for 450 minutes + free nights and weekends

Verizon doesn't have to know that you're planning on staying with them...when you talk to them let them know that you're shopping around and thinking of switching - in most cases they'll bring the unlimited price down, especially if there's a lower competitor's price out there. I say do some research and then lie.

Hmm... Ok. WNG, I will see, but I realized it's not $60, it's 40 for the 450 minutes, and my husband and I have been sharing 400 minutes, so maybe people are right and I can get by with the lowest plan. I'm such a cheapskate. Or maybe I can finagle extra minutes. I don't know.

I have a shared Verizon plan with my girls and we have a ridiculous amount of minutes because of that. We've only gone over once and that was during the Summer when my youngest wasn't in school and apparently had time to call everyone who ever lived.

I am on a shared minutes plan with four other family members and we have to keep upping our minutes (even with free mobile to mobile) mainly because of my 15 year old daughter. Um, anyway, if I were you, I would be willing to pay $99 for the ease of having unlimited minutes. One less thing to worry about and after awhile, if you see you are barely using any minutes you can always cut your plan, can't you?

OK, so I think I'm ok since I don't have a 15 year old. I do remember being 15 and just spending alllll night on the phone. Amazing.

I pay about $99 for TWO phones, 1,400 minutes; free nights & weekends, 1,500 texts and 5 megs of data.......I also have rollover minutes.

Ooops, I just looked, I pay $89

OK, Tera, but how's your service? And who is it??

The service is fantastic...AT&T. The thing I love most is that I barely EVER have dropped calls (I talk on my phone in the elevator), and any unused minutes roll over to the following month for up to a year! That is just the best frapping thing I have ever heard of!

Of course that's AT&T FKA Cingular...damn, why can't I form a complete thought today?!
