Pierogi

I think I've mentioned that every Christmas Eve, we make pierogis. It's a Polish Christmas tradition. We always make potato, and cabbage filled. This year we also made prune (didn't try) and sour cherry (yummy). And after I had left, my brother made a hot dog pierogi just for the hell of it. (yucky). Thing is, because we have to do the oplatek, by the time we sit down and eat it's always pretty cold. Just the nature of the meal. But still delicious!

200+ handmade pierogis

Leftover dough cannot be re-rolled and used for pierogis, so they are made into 'straighties'.

When they float, they are done.

And right before the masses descend, it's oh so pretty.

Wow, what an amazing task! Yokel that I am, I have never had pierogi.
Anyway, seeing them all set out like that is impressive...and your table does look beautiful.

That sounds like a lot of work. I've had them before and they are worth all of that .

Oh man! That sounds delicious! And looks delicious. and now I might have to go to Kramarcyzk's for lunch this week... they have terrific pierogi and I'm too lazy to make 'em at home.

when I lived in Massachusetts, Chicopee Ma. would have a polish festival every fall. I ate Pierogi non stop, all day and bought some to take home, YUM. Of course I can't imagine making them, I think I'm too lazy but your pictures sure make me yearn for some.

I like pierogi, especially the cheese-filled kind. But that sour cherry sounds really good!

Laura, it is a task, but it's nice to have the whole family working together to make them. And don't for a minute think that Mrs. T's pierogis are even remotely close to the quality.

Churlita, they are certainly worth it.

Not, be glad you have a place nearby to get them. Jeez, I wish I had that.

Es-Although I just wrote to Not that I'd like to have aplace nearby, I fear I would also eat them nonstop if I could.

Tara - sour cherry are indeed really nice.

Just made pierogi yesterday, freakin' little devils... potato and cabbage. My cousinand aunt do all the pierogi for Christmas Eve, so my brother, sister and I get together to make a bunch for our freezers. My cousin makes an apple pierogi that is awesome, and a pumpkin one that ain't to bad either. C:)
