But it was yellow!

Biking to work this morning, light in front of me turns yellow so I gun it (metaphorically, since I was on my bike). I go through and a cop steps out into the street. I thought he was just crossing, but he stops me and starts yelling at me, literally. "blah blah blah, if you're gonna ride in the road, you have to obey the rules. blah blah you would get 4 points on your license blah blah I'll let you go this time" The thing is, I was truly surprised because I thought I had made the yellow. And I was stunned that he was yelling at me. It was kinda like my dad was yelling at me (not that my dad did, but you understand) so I was really upset afterwards, especially since I didn't think I did run a red.

Thing is, I think my nine lives of getting caught and not getting a ticket are almost used up so I think I have to lessen my aggressiveness and be conservative as well as start obeying the rules of the road when I bike. Dammit.

That would be the smartest thing to do.. I find too many people don't obey the rules of biking..

For instance: My Hubby and I were driving along King street(one way traffic) one day and we had the green light to go, unfortunately there wasn't a cop around.. But the guy on his bike riding in the wrong direction.. Towards us and not paying attention to us so we gave a warning honk to let him have time to realize he needed to stop.. we got a curt Middle Finger instead of a thank you..

Well, I'm at least a courteous law breaker. If I'm going the wrong direction on a street I would never think I own the road - not at all. Sorry that happened to you.

L.M.F.A.O.!!! I got a visual of you "gunning it" Bwahahahahahaha! I can't believe that cop! Hey when you were far enough away from him (since he was walking and couldn't "gun it") did you flip him the Bird?

TERA - NFW! I swear he would have pulled out a gun and shot me. He wanted to already as it was.

I run red lights all the time - naughty Puss. But that seems a bit harsh when you were on your bike. Some men just have to take advantage of the uniform. Probably means he thought you were hot...

Maybe he knew people who'd been run down by those people that gun it when the light turns green and was worried about you?

Just trying to make a guy seem not quite as psycho I'll shoot you if you open your mouth again woman cop.

Puss - I'd agree if I didn't have a jacket on this morning and not a tight fitting sports bra only.

Susan - yes, dear. Of course dear.

I have found if you go, "YEEEEAAAAHHEEEEEWWWW" as you gun it and speed through the yellow light, banjo music magically starts playing in the background.

Then the police officer will refer to you as, "Them Duke boys!" as you speed away.

The lesson I was taught with a traffic ticket years ago was that Yellow lights are viewed as red lights. If you're not in the intersection, the cops think you have to stop.

That's a tough one. When riding my bike, I try to err on the side of caution. I don't trust cars to look for me. Sometimes, I think cops just want attention and only know how to get it the negative way.

In my area, more and more people are starting to bike because of gas prices. I notice that drivers aren't particularly careful of them and are actually quite hostile at times. Can't we all just get along? haha!

MRT, I would hope I'd be Daisy and not one of the boys.

Nate - yeah, well, I have learned the easy way I guess. It's still going to be difficult.

Churlita - If I worried about cars hitting me, I wouldn't get on the roads around here.

Nor, if you take to biking to work in your daisy dukes, you're going to get stopped more often, not less.

There's nothing wrong with more conservative and less risky.
