Postcards from the past

And the cleaning out of crap out of my house continues. And I keep finding interesting things. The below were saved because I used to collect stamps, so the postcards were in my possession.

Hi Kid,
Waiting for a ride to the base - so I thought I'd drop you a short line of hello. It's about all you can fit on these cards - will write tomorrow.
Regards to your mother.
Best,
F

Hi K.
Here is the card I promised you - just finished the Hungarian Restaurants now working on the German ones - after 6 (or is it 7) drinks - we are still sober at 1 AM Friday.
Will see you.
Best,
F

Hi!
I got here finally if only for one day. We're enjoying ourselves, that is Evelyn and myself. We saw quite a bit of the Pulaski Day Parade. Will write in morning.
Love, K

Little glimpses of the courtship of my parents. Wasn't my dad such an emotionally expressive man? :-) It was wonderful finding these. I scanned them and sent to my siblings and mom...

At least he wrote....

If my dad would write there would be less words. He is a man of very few words.

A great post. I could easily turn my blog into one of old postcards like this.

Awwwwww....that he actually made the time and put pen to postcard instead of just cramming them into some bag and handing them over all at one time--speakes volumes.

I love old postcards.
I've been known to get side-tracked in the antique shops just having a glimpse into those bits of other's lives.

What a cool thing to pass on back to your mom and siblings.

They are wonderful - I love the vernacular of the time.

My dad was a man of very few words also. I guess he used them all up writing postcards! :-)

Dmarks, somehow, I knew you'd like this one. :-)

Mel, it is indeed very cool. There's not much of a family history for us, so it's good to get bits and pieces.

Puss, I love the fact that they spent their time in NY at the Pulaski day parade (being of Polish descent and all).

You are so lucky to have anything from either parent!

My parents were in the same city so they didn't write. I'm envious of people who have correspondence from the past, especially grandparents and great-grandparents, it's such a way of making the ancestors real.

When I see stuff like this, I wonder if the next generation will have the pleasure of reading the hand-written words of their parents. With email and text messaging and blogging and all, letters and post cards seem to be making less and less of an appearance.

I think I'm going to write a few letters this week...

Yeah, CEO, and we don't have much. there was a fire in my parents' house before I was born that destroyed a lot of stuff.

OJ, I really wished I had interviewed my dad before he died. That would have been good.

TERA, I thought that word was quite good myself...

Yup smtg, I agree.

I don't have any correspondence between my parents. My sister has my mom's diary from when she was 12. It's so weird to read it because her life seemed like something out of a movie.
